You can buy Hereville books directly from me, or you can ask for them at your local bookstore, or you can find them in online bookstores.

Here are some links:

Hereville book 1
(paperback) Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Powells | Indie Bound
(hardcover)Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Powells | Indie Bound

Hereville book 2
Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Powells | Indie Bound

Hereville book 3
Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Powells | Indie Bound

Because the bookstores linked above often provide discounts, they are the most affordable way to buy Hereville, and I don’t mind a bit if you’d prefer to order through them. And I do get a royalty on all books sold, so part of what you spend on my books at those sites does get back to me. (They ship much quicker than I do, too!)

Digital Downloads of Hereville
You can also buy digital copies of all three books at Comixology. (Plus, you can buy digital copies for Nook at the B&N links, and for Kindle at the Amazon links.)

Buying Signed Copies of Hereville
I am selling copies directly via my BigCartel store. This is the way to go if you want an autographed copy, a copy inscribed as a gift for someone, or a copy with a drawing in it. Please understand that I’m often very slow to ship books.

If you order a book from me, please email me and tell me how you’d like the book dedicated (for example, “For Susan”). You can also use the “instructions to merchant” option in Paypal’s order form to let me know how to dedicate it. If you’d prefer your book signed but not dedicated, please let me know that, too. If I never hear from you, I’ll assume you want it signed but not dedicated, but I’d prefer to hear from you!

You can also order a bookplate glued into your book. This bookplate has a sketch of Mirka playing with a bug; you can see what it looks like here. The bookplate will be glued onto the first page of the book (which has no content on it, so you’re not missing anything), and costs $5 extra.

You can also order a quick handdrawn “head sketch” of a Hereville character, glued into your book and signed by me. This option costs $10 extra. I usually do Mirka heads, but I’m also happy to do Zindel, the Troll, Rochel, or Fruma. If you order two or more books, I’ll vary the character or clothing in some manner, so that all the head sketches aren’t the same.

You can also order an original, one-of-a-kind sketch with your book, which costs $50 extra. If you’re interested, please read the details here.

Use my BigCartel page to order books directly from me.

Books are shipped priority mail. International mail is really, really expensive; please blame the postal service, not me.

P.S. Only read this if you’re ordering 3 or more copies from me. My BigCartel page only understands how to calculate shipping for up to two copies. If you’re ordering 3 or more copies, if there’s a large discrepancy between how much I charged you for shipping and how much shipping actually cost, I’ll be in touch to either ask you for an additional payment, or to issue you a refund.

    Hello Mister Deutsch,

I am an American from California who is now living in Lithuania. I am here working to open the Vilnius Jewish Library. This has been a work in progress over the past six years. Now thanks to the support of the Lithuanian government, the library will open in the spring. This will be a Jewish library unlike any the world has ever seen. It will be a celebration of all things Jewish. Your art will be honored as much as that of Chagall. Jurassic Park will have as much of a place as Schindler’s List. The music of KISS and the Beastie Boys will rank right up there with Mahler and Gershwin. I would love to buy a copy of your book as well as a separate $40 drawing. My question is are you able to accept Paypal? I can give you an address in the USA to ship the book and drawing.

I have a friend in San Diego who is storing items I purchase along with the donations which people make. People such as Leonard Nimoy and architect Richard Meier have donated art. Others such as Janis Ian and Cindy Paley have donated music. Authors such as Jodi Picoult and Sir Martin Gilbert have given books. While I don’t ask you to donate anything, I wonder if you could make a drawing of Mirka with some obvious Jewish theme in it, even better if some Lithuanian connection. It can be totally light and humorous. Something which matches the tone of your book would be perfect.

    Respectfully Yours,

    Wyman Brent

P.S. I will gladly send you links to articles which have appeared about the library. Let me know if you are interested. I hope one day to have a chance to peer in the window as you are creating more magical art.

Gail, how great to hear from you!

The book is out already — but you can buy it in a few month’s time, it’ll still be out then! I’d recommend getting it on Amazon, they have it a pretty good discount.

    Hello, Barry,

I just submitted an order for two copies of Hereville, one for myself and one for a friend, and one quick sketch, which also will go to my friend. I didn’t see an “instructions to merchant” option when I submitted my order; would it be possible for you to contact me for personalization information? (There’s a problem with the e-mail response thingy on my computer, so I can’t contact you using the e-mail link above.)

    Many thanks. Happy new year!

Just a quick belated note of thanks for my book and sketch….wow, you even decorated the envelope and dedication:) I got our family’s Haunnakah/Christmas copy from you, but also went the cheaper route to give my sister’s family (He’s Jewish, She’s not) and my Jewish mate’s sister’family copies, as well as my extended household family who have 3 kidlets and enjoy fantasy. The books were immediately co-opted by the teens in the sisters’s families, and the other made the folks who I showed the web comic to thrilled. Just so you know your book is appreciated, and made the holiday gift thing pretty no-brainer for me this year. 🙂

    Hi Barry,

I just commented on the “praise for Hereville” page, but wanted to make sure you see this, along with any one else thinking of getting the book or a personalized drawing. It’s so worth it! (P.S. to Gregg: we’re in Canada too and it was really quick, no problems). So here’s the comment again:

    Barry!

Thank you so so much for the personalized drawing for our daughter Wren. I love the caption, and Mirka, and it’s pretty cool that you cared enough to draw an actual wren too. And I love that Mirka’s strange day involves shrinking to bird size. =D We are really looking forward to reading and showing her the book when she’s old enough. Mirka’s got spunk and we love her.

Thanks again so much. You rock!

  19. Jenn, I’m so happy you enjoyed the drawing! That was a fun one to do. I hope Wren enjoys it too, once she’s old enough. 🙂

    Hi Barry:
Thank you so much for your drawing of Mirka with a Doctor Who scarf for my daughter’s birthday. She treasures it so much that no one in the house is allowed to touch it. Hereville, the book, and you as an artist are a great inspiration for her.
